STROKE OF GENIUS

Margo Newman, Executive Producer & Creator

A project for Netflix Espana, in association with Big Light Productions, London (Frank Spotnitz, CEO) and Mod Productions, Madrid. A historical limited series for television, currently in pre-production.

Jeffrey Rose, Producer

Dr. Carmen Fracchia, Researcher, Emeritus Professor, University College London

Stroke Of Genius chronicles the remarkable true story of Juan de Pareja, an enslaved man in Spain who risked his life to paint while serving the great master, Diego Velázquez. A painter to the king, Velazquez held his own secrets. His immense talent could still not shield him from the dangers of his Jewish heritage. With extensive historical research and humor, Stroke Of Genius remains surprisingly relevant to the issues of our day. In fact, after 400 years, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York mounted the first-ever public exhibition of his work in 2023. The time has come to tell their story.
